Here, you'll find my specific plan for home-school communication.
Weekly Newsletter
I will send home a weekly newsletter with a quick overview of what we are learning. Depending on the needs of my families, this could be a paper copy, embedded in an email, or posted on my class website/Schoology/Seesaw. The pictures below are an example of a weekly newsletter in both English and Spanish.
Back to School
At the beginning of the year, I will send home some basic information in a "handbook" so everything is in one place and easily available for reference. This might include where to find the district/school calendar, class schedules, classroom expectations, grading & homework policies, and how to get in touch (including my teacher Twitter/Instagram, district email, and how to message on Seesaw/Remind101).
I will also send home various materials and resources for families (for example, a brief explanation of my standards-based assessments, what word study is, why I don't give homework, and resources for extending learning at home). All of these materials will also be posted on my classroom website for families to access at any time. I will have a QR code linked to this survey for families to fill out at back to school night, with welcome letters, and on my website. The questions are designed to help me get to know each student and their family. |
