Welcome!
Welcome to my e-portfolio. Here you'll find my resume, teaching philosophies, details about my experience as a volunteer, professional, and undergraduate, and work samples. As an elementary education and special education professional, I believe in helping each student achieve their potential by holding them to high yet achievable expectations and encouraging them to be their best selves. I also advocate for fostering student well-being and mental health, a trauma-sensitive and inclusive classroom & school community, and diversity-oriented curriculum. My professional goals include pursuing a graduate degree in special education; researching trauma-informed education, neurodiversity, and the impact of media representation on child development; and working to bridge the gap between general and special education. Click below for my classroom website (coming soon!), where you'll find updates about my class, resources for students and families, and opportunities to become involved with the community. |
About MeI am a recent graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude. I hold a B.S.Ed. in Early Grades Preparation (PK-4) and a B.S.Ed. in Special Education (PK-8) with minors in Deaf Studies and Autism. I am certified in Pennsylvania to teach special education in grades pre-K-8th and general education in grades preK-4. I have applied for the autism endorsement as an add-on to my existing certifications.
I have worked and volunteered in general and special education at the preschool, elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels for over 10 years. I most recently worked as a full-time Pre-K teacher and a middle and high school math tutor. I just completed a full school year as an intern in the PDS program in West Chester Area School District; I spent my time in a 4th grade inclusive classroom, 4th/5th grade learning support classroom, and K-2nd autism support verbal behavior classroom. During my PDS placement, I supervised the Science Explorers club and volunteered with the math club. In the transition to distance learning, I supported my placements by providing digital instruction and finding new, innovative ways to teach from home. I have accepted a position for this coming summer as a special education teacher for the Extended School Year program in West Chester Area School District and am actively seeking teaching positions for the 2020-2021 school year. I have experience with linguistically, culturally, and academically diverse students from both my own years in school and my several years teaching preschool. I am semi-fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language and have experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities and behaviors. I am a Level 1 Google Certified Educator and Apple Teacher, and I am working to become a Level 2 Google Certified Educator. |
